Non-denominational, co-educational and non-profit, Kinma Primary and Preschool has been leading the way in innovative holistic child-centred teaching and learning for over 50 years.

The founding families created a supportive and inspiring environment where teachers, parents and children share the decisions about the educational program.

The Learning Programme

Primary maths

Kinma's educational programme is accredited by the NSW Board of Studies and has been awarded the highest level of registration possible. Kinma delivers and meets all of the requirements of the NSW Board of Studies to a very high standard; we just don't do it in a 'tick-the-box" way.

Kinma Preschool was given an NQS ranking of 'Exceeding National Quality Standards' by the DEC in November 2013.

Philosophy

Primary feet-1Central to Kinma's approach is our Core and Guiding principles, our unique learning programme, time for creative free play integrated daily into our curriculum, assessment rather than testing and building healthy strong relationships.

Transitions

Kinma pre-highs-2

Transitions have always been important at Kinma and we have a strong transition programme.

It is our aim to make each transition gentle and supportive of both the children and their families' very individual needs, from playgroup to preschool, from preschool to primary and from primary to high school.

Governance

Community yurt-farm

The Kinma Memorandum and Articles of Association (1972) which allowed the establishment of the School laid down that a board should be comprised of current parents and members of the wider community.

The Kinma Constitution (2012) replaced the Articles of Association.

Kinma (an aboriginal word meaning ‘Awake’) is based on the philosophy of progressive education with democratic principles. Please see our Core and Guiding Principles. Kinma is a member school of the Australasian Democratic Education Community (ADEC).
