Bush Fire
Flames lick my sleeping place
Choking, crawling away
Swirling smoke blurs my view
Scorching heat everywhere
Dashing through the flames
My toys melting, blocking path
Reaching around blindly
Can't find door
Clock strikes midnight
Can't breathe
One thought rushing through my brain
I'm dying
Coughing
Knees feel weak
Collapsing
Everything seems far away
Eyes closing
Footsteps getting closer
Strong hands grasp me
Sling me over shoulder
Lying down on grass
First choking breaths
I smile because I'm alive
I survived the fire!
