INTRODUCTION
Kinma is an innovative school where children from three to twelve years enjoy learning in a stimulating environment.
Kinma encourages children to become flexible thinkers and independent, self-directed learners. Kinma provides a curriculum designed to encourage each child to discover full academic, physical and social potential. Our programmes are based on an understanding of child development. The balanced curriculum provides for the development of creative and critical abilities in a cooperative, non-competitive atmosphere. In 2003, some past students or their parents were invited to tell us about their own or their children's experiences at Kinma, and their achievements since leaving the school. You can read their stories.
Established in 1972, as a non-denominational, co-educational, non-profit Primary and Pre-School, Kinma is managed by parents and teachers via a school council. All parents are entitled to become members of the council. The council and staff have developed a number of strategies for running the school with each strategy summarised in a matrix:
- Education matrix - To provide a stimulating and sound education suited to the needs of the individual child in the context of the group.
- Governance matrix - To make decisions and provide resources for the efficient, effective and appropriate management of Kinma School.
- Community development matrix - To develop the capacity for resilient inter-personal relationships and shared responsibility for the school's wellbeing between all members of our immediate and extended community.
- Site monitoring matrix - To manage Kinma's internal and external environment to ensure it is clean, safe, aesthetic, culturally sensitive and sustainable.
- Publicity and promotions matrix - To ensure that Kinma and the education it provides are known to and well regarded by parents, teachers, children and the local community.
The council and staff have also developed a number of policies for student and community welfare. They include policies on:
- Enrolment
- Student and Community Welfare
- Behaviour Management
- Child Protection
- Preschool Additional Needs
- Student Attendance
Kinma's educational programme is accredited by the Board of Studies. Visitors are encouraged to discuss Kinma's educational programme with the staff at a mutually convenient time. Please telephone 9450 0738 or email with your enquiries.
